Salamun alaykum,
6 Imams are buried in Iraq:
Najaf has the shrine of Imam Ali a.s; Karbala has the shrine of Imam Husayn a.s; Kadhimiya /Kadhmayn has the shrines of Imam Musa Al-Kadhim a.s. and Imam Muhammad At-Taqi a.s; and Samarra has the shrines of Imam Ali An-Naqi a.s. and Imam Hasan al-Askari a.s.
The Fourth year since Golden dome of Samarra is destroyed:
On 23rd Muharram 1427 A.H. ( 22nd February, 2006) an explosion at the shrine of Samarra took place which totally destroyed its golden dome underneath which is the resting place of the 10th Imam and 11th Imam a.s.
The shrine : house of 3 Imams :
During the reign of Abbasid Ruler Mutawakkil bin Mutasim, the 10th Imam Ali An-Naqi a.s. was summoned from Medina to Samarra and placed under constant government surveillance. In due course Imam Ali An-Naqi a.s. bought a house and it was the same house in which he was buried. Imam Hasan Al-Askari a.s. was buried next to the grave of his father in this house. This house was also the birth place of our living Imam Al-Mahdi, may Allah hasten his re-appearance.
The house had a basement /cellar where Imam al-Mahdi was seen reciting the Quran in it. This basement is commonly known as Sardab Sahibuz Zaman. (Basement of the Present Imam ). A blue dome has been built over this basement which is visited for ziyarat.
Note that beliefs such that the Sardab is the place where the 12th Imam entered and was not seen again or it is the place where he will make his re-appearance have no reference in our books and as such are false beliefs.
Other personalities buried in the shrine :
- Bibi Hakima Khatun: Daughter of 9th Imam and sister of 10th Imam
- Bibi Narjis Khatun : Mother of our 12th Imam
- Bibi Hadith /Sausan :Mother of 11th Imam
- Al-Husayn : brother of 11th Imam
Not the only attack:
The attack on this shrine of Samarra is not just demolition of a building, it is an attack on one of the most visible symbols of our Shia faith.
During these modern times the explosion of the Samarra shrine is not the only attack. A similar atrocity was carried out on 8th Shawwal 1345 A.H. /April 1925 when the mausoleums in Jannatul Baqi, Medina and Jannatul Mualla, Makka were destroyed. This day is observed on our calendar as Yawme Gham : Day of Sorrow.
May Allah SWT bring good out of this evil act of enemies of Ahlul Bayt a.s.
