The Friday Message - Issue No: 14 - The Farewell Hajj & Ghadeer Khum

Salamun alaykum,

Urgent revelation :

On his return journey to Madina after completing the acts of Haj which became known as Hijjatul Wida ( Farewell Haj) , the caravan passed Ghadeer Khum in Johfa on 18th Dhulhijjah 10 A.H. and the holy prophet received the following revelation :

O Messenger! Deliver what has been revealed to you from your Lord; and if you do it not, then it would be as though you have not delivered His message, and Allah will protect you from the people. (Sura Al Maida 5:67)

On hearing this urgent command the Holy Prophet halted and after the performance of dhuhr salat in jamaat, he delivered a sermon whose highlight was the announcement :”whosoever whose master I am, then this Ali is his master”

Thereafter the following verse was revealed : “On this day I have completed  your religion for you and perfected my bounties upon you and am pleased with Islam as your religion” (Sura Al Maida 5:3)

This day, known as Eid ul Ghadeer, was marked in history as a momentous and grand occasion.

Best Eid of the Ummah :- Eid ul Ghadeer:

“The day of Ghadeer Khum is the best Eid of my nation. It is the day on which Allah, the High, ordered me to mention the appointment of my brother Ali bin Abi Talib as the flag and standard of my nation. People shall be guided by him after me and this is the day in which Allah completed the religion and perfected the bounties upon my nation and on which He was pleased with Islam as their religion”  Holy Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.w.

From the ahadith of the Ahlul Bayt it can be seen that that the Imams celebrated this day as Eid and used to hold special programmes to mark this event.

Let us celebrate the greatest of all Eids :

  1. Perform ghusl
  1. Highly Recommended to fast:- forgiveness for sins of 60 years, reward of 100 haj
  1. Recite the recommended prayers for the day.
  1. Offer shukr to Allah and salawat in abundance
  1. Congratulate Muminin, Shake hands, visit each other, exchange gifts
  1. Silatur rahm : maintain kinship ties, show kindness to the family
  1. Forgive the faults of muminin, affirm our brotherhood and be united
  1. Extend favour: do good to muminin by providing assistance: A single dirham donated to a mumin on this day is worth 1000 dirhams on another day.
  1. Provide Iftar: One who provides Iftar has treated 10 “fa’aam”.( Imam Ali explained that fa’aam consisted 100 000 prophets, the truthful and martyrs)
  1. Convey / spread the message of Ghadeer

Recommended  a’mal for Eid ul Ghader will Inshallah be performed on Sunday 6th December, 2009 before Dhuhrayn jamaat prayers followed by visit to Qabrasatan. Kindly note this date.

Greetings when we meet:

Recommended to congratulate each other in the following words:

Alhamdulillahil ladhi ja’alana minal mutamassikina bi wilayati amiril m’uminina wal aimmati ‘alayhimus salaam.

(All praise is due to Allah for having enabled us to be from those who hold to the leadership of amirul muminin and the Imams a.s.)

On this auspicious event which is celebrated in the heavens and earth let us do fervent dua for acceptance of our hajat. Remember to pray for the parents, family, community, Marja taqlid, Ulama, our leaders, the sick ones, departed souls, the Ummah, for all who have their hajat and special mention for success in our new Al Mahdi centre project.
