The Friday Message - Issue No: 08 - The sacred months

Salamun alaykum,

Ash-hurul hurum: The sacred months

“Surely the number of months with Allah is twelve months so ordained by Him the day He created the heavens and the earth; of them four are sacred: that is the right reckoning; therefore be not unjust to yourselves regarding them. And fight the polytheists all together as they fight you all together; and know that Allah is with those who guard (against evil).”

Sura At-Tawba 9:36

The four sacred months (Ash-hurul hurum) mentioned in the above ayah of holy Quran are:- Dhulqa’ada, Dhulhijja, Muharram and Rajab.

The sanctity of these months was observed such that to commence fighting with the kuffar is prohibited. Sheikh Ali bin Ibrahim Al-qummi reports that during these sacred months the recompense for good deeds and punishment for bad deeds is amplified.

Dhulqa’ada : Shahrul haram :The sacred month

It is the first of the four sacred months (Ash-hurul hurum) mentioned in Holy Quran. Sayyid Ibn Tawoos (ra) narrated in a hadith that the month of Dhulqa'ada is the realm for supplications being responded on encountering a problem.

Sheikh Mufid records in his book Hadaiqur Riyadh that the Holy prophet s.a.w.w. said : One who fasts in the sacred months on three days: Thursday, Friday and Saturday Allah (swt) writes for him the reward of worship of 900 years for fasting during the day and remaining awake in night.

Special a’mal on a Sunday in month of Dhulqa'ada: Its benefits :

It has been narrated on the authority of the Messenger of Allah s.a.w.w. that a prayer, after performing ghusl, on a Sunday in this month has numerous virtues.

Among them is that whoever prays it his repentance to Allah is accepted, and every sin he has committed since the day he was born has been forgiven, he will die in pure faith (Iman) and Allah is pleased with him on the Day of Judgment.  Also, his grave is made spacious and it is illuminated by Allah with light from Him (swt). His father shall be pleased with him and his ancestors and descendants' sins shall be forgiven. Also, his blessings shall increase and the Angel of Death will be friendly to him at time of death and his soul shall be taken from the body in a manner that is easy and fast.

This a’mal will Inshallah be performed jointly on Sunday 15th November, 2009 after Dhuhrayn jamaat prayers. Kindly note this date.
