Salamun alaykum,
1st of the 5th month of the Hijri Calendar:
The Hilal Advisory Team has ascertained that today Friday 16th April, 2010 is the first day of Jamadi al Ula 1431 A.H.
Literal meaning of the words:
‘Jamad’ means freezing, solidifying.
‘Ula’ means the first.
Origin of the name:
Whilst naming the months by the Arabs, this month occured in the season when the water freezes so it was named Jamadi al Ula signifying the first month of freezing.
Recommended deed (A'amal) to be performed on the first day of every Islamic month: its method :
Recite 2 Rakat salah in the following manner with niyyah: I pray two rakat salah of the first day of the month sunnat qurbatan ilal laah (to seek nearness to Allah)
In first rakat after Sura Al Fatiha once recite thirty times Sura Al Ikhlas (Qul huwallaahu ahad )
In second rakat after Sura Al Fatiha once recite thirty times Sura Al Qadr (Inna Anzalnahu).
After salah give sadaqah.
Benefit :
If one does the above act, he would safeguard himself for the month. It would mean that as if one has acquired his/her insurance for that month from Almighty Allah.
TIP: To recall the sequence of recitation of surahs in the above prayer remember the mnemonic word AQAIN which stands for :
A : Alhamdu
Q: Qulhuwallahu
A : Alhamdu
IN : Inna anzalnahu
