Salamun alaykum,
Dhulhijjah: 3rd of the Sacred months (Ash-hurul Hurum):
The first ten days of Dhulhijah are very special days.
Appointed days: Days of virtue and righteous deeds
Remember/Celebrate the praise of Allah during the appointed days.(Sura al-Baqara 2:203).
Hadith from 6th Imam J’afar Sadiq a.s. reports that the ‘appointed days’ refers to the First ten days of Dhulhijjah.
In highlighting the significance of these first ten days of Dhulhijah, the Quran refers to them as al-Ayyām al-Maʿlūmāt – the Known/Appointed Days. (Sura al Haj 22:28)
The Noble Prophet SAWW is reported to have said that nothing is more preferable to Allah SWT than practicing the acts of worship during the first ten days and nights of Dhulhijjah. He also stated that supplications made in these 10 days get a positive reply from Allah SWT.
These Appointed days are Days of virtue providing us opportunities to perform righteous deeds.
Five Recommended deeds to perform:
(i) Mustahab to fast for the nine days from 1st to 9th Dhulhijjah. (Seventh Imam hadith : Get reward for fasting for lifetime). Such emphasis on fasting that if one is unable to fast for nine days then at least to do so on the first day. (Seventh Imam hadith : Reward for fasting 80 years). Note you may repay your qadha or other wajib fasts in these day and doubly benefit.
(ii) Recite the recommended duas and tahlil (statements of La ilaha illallahu …..) mentioned in Mafaatihul Jinan.
(iii) Arafah: 9th night and day of Dhulhijja: Perform the devotions of this auspicious date including the ziyārat of Imam Husayn a.s.
(iv) Perform the special 2 rakat salah between maghrib and Isha of the 1st to 10th nights in the method prescribed herebelow. Imam Muhammad Baqir a.s. highly recommends not to miss this salat.
(v) Eid ul Adhha: Reciting Duʿā al-Nudbah, offering ʿEid prayers and recitation of the ziyārat of Imam Husayn a.s.
SALAT FOR THE FIRST 10 NIGHTS IN DHUL HIJJAH
This Salat was highly recommended to Imam J’afar Al Sadiq [A.S.] by his father Imam Muhammad Al-Baqir [A.S.] as carrying great reward. A person who recites this prayer will share the "thawab" (reward) of those who have gone for Hajj.
Method:
This Salat consists of 2 rakats, to be recited between Maghrib and Isha salat of the first 10 nights of Dhul Hijjah i.e. from 1st Dhul Hijjah to 10th Dhul Hijjah.
Niyyah: “I am offering 2 rakat Salat of ten nights of Dhul Hijjah, Qurbatan Ilallah.”
In every rakat, recite Sura al-Fatihah and Sura al-Ikhlaas followed by ayah 142 of Sura Al A’araf (Sura 7) once:
وَوَاعَدْنَا مُوسَى ثَلاَثِينَ لَيْلَةً وَأَتْمَمْنَاهَا بِعَشْرٍ فَتَمَّ مِيقَاتُ رَبِّهِ أَرْبَعِينَ لَيْلَةً وَقَالَ مُوسَى لأَخِيهِ هَارُونَ
اخْلُفْنِي فِي قَوْمِي وَأَصْلِحْ وَلاَ تَتَّبِعْ سَبِيلَ الْمُفْسِدِينَ
WA WAA-'ADNAA MOOSA THALAATHINA LAYLATAN'W WA ATMAMNAAHAA BI-'ASHRIN FATAMMA MIQAATU RABBIHI ARBA-'INA LAYLAH
WA QAALA MOOSAA LI- AKHIHI HAAROONAKH-LUFNEE FI QAWMI WA AS-LIH WA LAA TAT-TABI' SABEELAL MUFSIDEEN
"And We appointed for Musa thirty nights, and completed (the period) with ten more; thus he completed the whole time appointed by his Lord of forty nights. And Musa said to his brother Harun: Take my place (Act for me) among the people. Do right, and do not follow the way of those who do mischief.”
Complete the prayer with Tashahhud and Salaam.
Together let us benefit from the first ten dates of Dhulhijjah.
