Islam

In College Park Infant School we had a whole week of getting to know and celebrate our differences. The motto of the week was:

 “Learn to love our differences.”

We were very lucky as on Wednesday, 20th March, the Resident Alim / Imam of the Al Mahdi Centre visited the school to help us learn about Islam. The assembly was very interesting. Sheikh Fazle Abbas read the Holy Qur’an in Arabic and he has taught us how to greet each other in Arabic. We looked at different prayer mats and learned about the famous Blue Mosque in Turkey. The children were able to hold Islamic prayer beads and try on hats (kofia) and scarves (hijab).

The children were very interested and asked lots of relevant questions ranging from prayers, food, dress and other aspects of Islam.
In their classrooms they designed their own prayer mats for the exhibition which closed the week on Friday.
We would like to say thank you to Sheikh Fazle Abbas, his helpers Maryam and Ruqayya for being very friendly and fun so the children could have a better understanding of Islam. Thank you for preparing the assembly and bringing super resources. It was a day we will not forget.
