Qawiy class teachers had organised a trip to Portsmouth Cathedral and Southsea beach We were all looking forward to it.
In module 3 of our Tarbiyah lesson on Rasulallah we learnt about the first migration of Muslims to Abyssinia and the protection offered by The Christian King. The purpose of the trip was for us to learn about Christianity, history of Portsmouth Cathedral and also to have fun a day out with our class.
It took 30 minutes to get to the Portsmouth Cathedral. First, we put our bags in a designated place. Then the priests welcomed us and showed us what the church looked like before and after by using colourful blocks.
Then the tour guide took us to the heart of Portsmouth cathedral, the organ. Some of us found it very interesting. We were allowed to listen to it, but it was very loud and echoed though the cathedral. We were shown various parts and antiques of the Cathedral such as bread dispenser.
We made our own very nice paper crowns with colourful paper and we saw a cannon ball that was built in a world war. We found the cannon balls very heavy. Everyone of us asked a lot of questions and all our questions were answered. We were served delicious biscuits with squash.
In the end, we saw a very nice gift shop, but you could only pay with card so there was nothing to buy. Next, we went to the beach and realised the ice cream van was closed due to the bad weather. Instead, we got ice cream from the shop and had a picnic near the beach. Then we went back to the mosque. It was fun and educational trip that we will remember.
Thank you to all the teachers who organised this trip special thanks to Aunty Sakina and all the parents who made this trip possible.
