Dhulhijjah: 3rd of the Sacred months (Ash-hurul Hurum ):
Appointed days: Days of virtue and righteous deeds
Salamun alaykum,
“Remember/Celebrate the praise of Allah during the appointed days.” (Sura al-Baqara 2:203)
Hadith from 6th Imam J’afar Sadiq a.s. reports that the ‘appointed days’ refers to the First ten days of Dhulhijjah.
The significance of these days is re-iterated by the Noble Prophet who stated,” The deeds performed in these ten days are more beloved to Allah than those performed at any other time.”
The Ahlul Bayt a.s. and pious and upright companions of the Noble Prophet s.a.w.w. used to spend this month in prayers and supplications, particularly the first ten days.
The month of Dhulhijjah, 1446 A.H. is expected to commence on the eve of Wednesday 28th May, 2025, InshAllah.
4 Recommended deeds to perform:
- 1st to 10th Dhulhijjah nights: Perform the special 2 rakat salah between Maghrib and Isha. Imam Muhammad Baqir a.s. highly recommends not to miss this salat. See attached.
- 1st to 9th Dhulhijjah days: Mustahab to fast for the nine days. (Seventh Imam hadith: Get reward for fasting for 80 years / lifetime). Such emphasis on fasting that if one is unable to fast for nine days then at least to do on the first day. Note you may repay your qadha or other wajib fasts in these days and doubly benefit.
- Recite the recommended tahlil and duas.
- 9th Dhulhijjah Laylatu Arafah and Yawmul Arafah : Night and day of great excellence. Auspicious moments for pleading to Allah SWT. Traditions narrate that for those who were not able to achieve their purpose and goal (acceptance of Hajat) in Laylatul Qadr or those who were not forgiven on that day, then there is another occasion to realize that. It is recommended to recite various duas and Ziyarah of Imam Husayn a.s.

SALAT FOR THE FIRST 10 NIGHTS IN DHUL HIJJAH
This Salat was highly recommended to Imam J’afar Al Sadiq [A.S.] by his father Imam Muhammad Al-Baqir [A.S.] as carrying great reward.
A person who recites this prayer will share the "thawab" (reward) of those who have gone for Hajj.
Method:
This Salat consists of 2 rakats, to be recited between Maghrib and Isha salat of the first 10 nights of Dhul Hijjah i.e. from 1st Dhul Hijjah to 10th Dhul Hijjah.
Niyyah: “I am offering 2 rakat Salat of ten nights of Dhul Hijjah, Qurbatan Ilallah.”
In every rakat, recite Sura al-Fatihah and Sura al-Ikhlaas followed by ayah 142 of Sura Al A’araf (Sura 7) once:
وَوَاعَدْنَا مُوسَى ثَلاَثِينَ لَيْلَةً وَأَتْمَمْنَاهَا بِعَشْرٍ فَتَمَّ مِيقَاتُ رَبِّهِ أَرْبَعِينَ لَيْلَةً وَقَالَ مُوسَى لأَخِيهِ هَارُونَ اخْلُفْنِي فِي قَوْمِي وَأَصْلِحْ وَلاَتَتَّبِعْ سَبِيلَ الْمُفْسِدِينَ
WA WAA-'ADNAA MOOSA THALAATHINA LAYLATAN'W WA ATMAMNAAHAA BI-'ASHRIN FATAMMA MIQAATU RABBIHI ARBA-'INA LAYLAH WA QAALA MOOSAA LI- AKHIHI HAAROONAKH-LUFNEE FI QAWMI WA AS-LIH WA LAA TAT-TABI' SABEELAL MUFSIDEEN
"And We appointed for Musa thirty nights, and completed (the period) with ten more; thus he completed the whole time appointed by his Lord of forty nights. And Musa said to his brother Harun: Take my place (Act for me) among the people. Do right, and do not follow the way of those who do mischief.”
Complete the prayer with Tashahhud and Salaam.
