Wessex Shia Ithna Asheri Jamaat (Wessex Jamaat) was formed in 1982 and became a registered charity in the United Kingdom (Registered Charity Number 1010076) on 25 March 1992.
In March 2007, the Jamaat members unanimously approved the acquisition of a five acre site in Fareham for £750,000. Alhamdulillah, with duas from Mu'mineen and by the grace of the Almighty (SWT), we obtained detailed planning permission to construct a multi-purpose Islamic centre in May 2008.
The centre has been flexibly designed to include the following:
- Built-in flexibility for eight madressa rooms,
- Separate ghusl khana and wudhu facilities
- Kitchen
- Library and office facilities
- Adequate car parking facilities for attendees of the centre
- Youth bonding and camping facilities
The footprint of the new centre is approx 540 square metres with plenty of room for expansion should the need arise in future years.
Alhamdulillah with the size of the plot acquired, this centre will serve Mu'mineen in the Wessex area for many generations to come Insha'Allah.
Alhamdulliah, by the blessings of Allah (SWT), the Aimmah and Mumineen, we are now in the final stages of the completion of the project and hence have to vacate our current centre. 18 years of tears have fallen on the carpet of this centre in remembrance of the Ahlul Bayt. 18 years of happiness has been felt in this centre in remembrance of the Ahlul bayt. 18 years of community spirit has been felt in this centre combined with the love and teachings from the Ahlul Bayt. This event will be last opportunity to remember the Aimmah with whose blessings we have Alhamdulliah reached so far.
Wessex Jamaat would like to invite you to join in our happiness and share our sadness as we part from this centre. We will also be celebrating the birth of our 8th Imam.
