The Friday Message - Issue No: 07

Issue No: 07 15th October 2009 25th Shawwal 1430 AH Salamun alaykum, 25 th Shawwal : 148 A. H....

Salamun alaykum,

25th Shawwal : 148 A.H.

This day marks the sad demise of our sixth holy Imam J’afar Al Sadiq a.s. at the age  of 65 years. He was born in Medina on 17th Rabi ul Awwal, 83 A.H. He is the son of our fifth holy Imam Muhammad Al Baqir a.s. and Bibi Fatima (Um Farwa) daughter of  Al Qasim bin Muhammad bin Abi Bakr.

At the time of his birth his grandfather Imam Ali Zaynul Abidin was alive. He spent 12 years in the company of his grandfather who passed away in 95 A.H. In 114 A.H. when the Imam was 31 years old his father died and he assumed the office of Imamat. He led the Ummah for 34 years till the time of his martyrdom on  25th Shawwal,148 A.H.

He was buried in the Cemetry :- Jannatul Baqi alongside his father, grandfather and his (great-great) uncle Imam Hassan a.s.

Imam J’afar Sadiq(a.s.) stood out among the people for his great merit (fadl); he was the most celebrated, the greatest in rank and the most illustrious of them in the eyes of both the Non-Shia (al-amma) and the Shi'a (al-khassa). The learned scholars have transmitted on the authority of no other member of the Ahlul-Bayt as much as they have transmitted on his authority.

The Golden chain of narration :

Imam J’afar Sadiq (a.s.) often said, “ I heard the hadith I communicate to you from my father ( Imam Al Baqir). My father heard them from my grandfather ( Imam Zaynul Abidin). My grandfather heard them from his father (Imam Husayn). His father heard them from Ali bin Abi Talib. Ali bin Abi Talib heard them from the Apostle of Allah. And what hadith the apostle of Allah communicated are the exact words of Allah, the Almighty and most High.” This Hadith called the golden chain of narration.

J’afariya : Another name of the Shias

During the imamate of the sixth Imam greater possibilities and a more favorable climate existed for him to propagate religious teachings. This came about as a result of revolts in Islamic Lands, especially the uprising to overthrow the Umayyad caliphate, and the bloody wars which finally led to the fall and extinction of the Umayyads. The Imam took advantage of the occasion to propagate the religious sciences until the very end of his imamate. The great role of Imam J’afar Sadiq in promoting scholarship, consolidation and exposure of teachings of the message of holy prophet nurtured the body of ‘Islam original’ and made the Shia Ithna Asheri be synonymous as J’aferiya.

Need for wudhu after Ghusl? :

A person who does Ghusl of Janabat should not do Wudhu for the prayers. In fact one can offer prayers without performing Wudhu after all Wajib Ghusls (except the ghusl  for medium istihaza).

Also one can perform acts for which wudhu is necessary e.g. prayers after having taken some mustahab ghusls. These mustahab ghusls are listed in ruling No: 651 by our Marja Taqleed Ayatollah al Udhama Seyyid Seestani.Ghusl of Juma is included in the list.
