Annual Gathering at the Portsmouth Cathedral - Monday 19th January 2015

Dear Mu’mineen

Salamun alaykum,

For the last 19 years it has been a tradition in our community to have a joint Muslim Christian evening at the Portsmouth Cathedral. In consideration of the Ayyaam-e-Azaa period, the event for December 2014, will now be held on  Monday 19th  January 2015 at 7pm, InshaAllah. This is a prominent event annually undertaken by Wessex Jamaat in our Interfaith programmes.

The purposes of this programme are as follows:

  1.  Share a common understanding of Islam with people from the local community
  2. Seek out opportunities for undertaking the sharing of the message of Islam and the Ahlulbayt (AS) through networking.
  3. Demonstrate through our presence the importance Islam gives to building of relationships with the neighbour.

This year is a particularly significant one as it will be the twentieth anniversary of the first meeting in 1994.  This is a prominent milestone for Wessex Jamaat as part of our interfaith programmes. Much has been achieved over these last twenty years not least a strong bond of friendship between the Cathedral and Wessex Jamaat.

As part of our evening we will be sharing some readings, messages from both faith leaders, prayers and sharing of food. During the evening we will also launch  a documentary video of people’s thoughts on the relationship established since that first meeting and considering the next twenty years and a way forward for our two communities to continue to work together.

Your participation will contribute towards tableegh and earn thawab.

With salams and duas,
