Competition Details:

On the auspicious occasions of celebrating the wiladat of these great personalities, there is also a competition organized for the children, youth and the young adults of our community.

The respective age groups and details for the competition are as follows:

Age Group 1:

5-7 years old: You are required to make a drawing in relation to the three personalities whose lives we are celebrating on this occasion. The drawing must depict anything to do with the 3 personalities (Imam Husayn [as], Hadhrat Abbas [as] or Imam Sajjad [as]). It must be on an A4 sized paper or similar (11.7 x 8.3 in). No names must appear on the drawing itself and you must submit your entry with a separate sheet that contains your name, age and a confirmation that it is your own work. You are free to use any types of colours or materials to make your drawing as exciting and eye-catching as possible.

Age Group 2:

8-11 years old: You are required to make a drawing in relation to the three personalities whose lives we are celebrating on this occasion. The drawing must depict anything to do with the 3 personalities (Imam Husayn [as], Hadhrat Abbas [as] or Imam Sajjad [as]). It must be on an A4 sized paper or similar (11.7 x 8.3 in). No names must appear on the drawing itself and you must submit your entry with a separate sheet that contains your name, age and a confirmation that it is your own work. Age Group 3:

12-18 years old: You are required to write an essay of 450-550 words on 'How the life of Imam al-Husayn (as) has inspired me'. All entries must be submitted electronically by emailing them to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Kindly standardise your submission by using the font 'Verdana', font size 10 and include your word count on the page of the essay. No names must appear on the page of the essay itself and you must submit your entry with a separate sheet that contains your name, age and a confirmation that it is your own work.

Age Group 4:

19-30 years old: You are required to write an essay of 1450-1550 words. Your essay concerns the three personalities whose lives we are celebrating on this occasion. In your piece, you will discuss three common characteristics among them as well as one differing characteristic in each of them. All entries must be submitted electronically by emailing them to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Kindly standardise your submission by using the font 'Verdana', font size 10 and include your word count on the page of the essay. No names must appear on the page of the essay itself and you must submit your entry with a separate sheet that contains your name, age and a confirmation that it is your own work.

The deadline for submission is Tuesday 1st of Sha'ban / 11th June 2013 at 18:00. However entries may be submitted earlier. No entries will be accepted after the deadline.

The judges’ decision will be final and binding.

The top 3 entries in each of the age groups will be awarded prizes on the 4th of Sha'ban (Wiladat of Hadhrat Abbas [as]).

Their works will also be published on the Wessex Jamaat Website and forwarded on to CoEJ/WF for distribution in their email groups/newswires.

All entries will be marked anonymously.

There will be a participation award for all entries submitted.

Parents are kindly requested to encourage their children to partake in this competition, and assist in deriving some valuable lessons from the lives of these holy personalities.
