Wessex Jamaat Qur’an Hifdh (Memorization) Competition: Shahru Ramadhan 1439 AH – May/June 2018

Heartiest felicitations on the wiladat of Amiral Muminin Imam Ali bin Abi Talib a.s.

On the auspicious occasion of the birth of Imam Ali a.s. the one who, as per narration of the Noble Prophet Muhammad SAWW, is with the Qur'an and the Qur'an is with him; the 4thWessex Jamaat Qur'an Hifdh / memorization program is being launched. The competition will InshAllah be conducted during the forthcoming Shahru Ramadhan 1439 A.H.

The program details are as follows:

              1. Registration:

The competition is open to all children and adults of Wessex Jamaat. All participants are required to register for the competition by sending their full name, date of birth and the category to: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Registration deadline is Sunday 20th May, 2018.

              2. Tasks for respective Age Groups is as here below:

Group A: Age 5 years and under:

To learn and memorize (by heart):
1) Surah al Kawthar
2) Surah al Nasr
3) Surah al Asr

Group B: 6-7 years old:
To learn and memorize (by heart):

1) Surah al Lahab (Masad)

2) Surah Quraysh
3) Surah al Fil

Group C: : 8-9 years old:
To learn and memorize (by heart):

1) Ayah ash-Shahada (Surah Aali-'Imran: 3:18-19)

2) Surah al Lahab (Masad)

3) Surah Al Zalzala, and

4) Answer 3 basic questions from the above 1) to 3)

Group D: 10-12 years old:

To learn and memorize (by heart):

1) Ayah ash-Shahada (Surah Aali-'Imran: 3:18-19)
2) Ayah al-Mulk (Surah Aali-'Imran: 3: 26-27)
3) Surah al Humazah
4) Surah Al Teen, and
5) Answer 4 basic questions from the above 1) to 4)

Group E: 13-15 years old:

To learn and memorize (by heart):
1) Ayah ash-Shahada (Surah Aali-'Imran: 3:18-19)
2) Ayah al-Mulk (Surah Aali-'Imran: 3: 26-27)
3) Ayatul Kursi (2:255-257)
4) Surah Al Qari'ah
5) Surah Al Teen, and
6) answer 4 basic questions from the above 1) to 5)

Group F: 16-18 years old:

To learn and memorize (by heart):
1) Ayah ash-Shahada (Surah Aali-'Imran: 3:18-19)
2) Ayah al-Mulk (Surah Aali-'Imran: 3: 26-27)
3) Ayah Aamanar Rasul (Surah Al Baqara 2:285-286)
4) Ayatul Kursi (2:255-257)
5) Surah Al Qari'ah

6) Surah Al Shams, and

7) answer 4 basic questions from the above 1) to 6)

Group G: 19 years old and over:

To learn and memorize (by heart):

1) Ayah ash-Shahada (Surah Aali-'Imran: 3:18-19)
2) Ayah al-Mulk (Surah Aali-'Imran: 3: 26-27)
3) Ayah Aamanar Rasul (Surah Al Baqara 2:285-286)

4) Ayatul Kursi (2:255-257)
5) Surah Al Bayyinah
6) Surah Al Fajr, and

7) Answer 4 basic questions from the above 1) to 6)

Note:

  • The basic questions will be based on the Surah & Ayah, for example surah number, number of verses, Makki /Madani Surah, event of revelation, the common themes covered in the Surah.
  • Recitation with the correct rulings of Tajweed would be an added bonus.
  • One may register to participate either in task set for one's own age group or a higher age group than their own age. You cannot register for a task set for a group below your age.

              3. Judges and Criteria:
The participants will be judged both in the ladies and the gents. The judges will assess the participants against a marking criteria of memorization. Tajweed, Tarteel and Translation would assist as an added bonus. The participants will be required to recite the memorized Surah in front of the judges without having the Qur'an at hand.
The judging will take place at the Al Mahdi Centre. The Judge's decision will be final.
The judging for Groups C - G will be done separately for both genders.

The exact dates/timings for the judging will be communicated later to the registered participants. However an estimated date would be from 1st June, 2018.

              4. Prizes:

There are exciting prizes to be won. Every participant will also be awarded a small participation prize. To qualify participants need to memorize at least two of the Suwer allotted to the group.

However, the best prize is a gift of love for the Qur'an in following the recommendation of our 6th Imām Jaʿfar ibn Muhammad al-Sādiq (A.S.) who said:

"If a youth among believers recites the Holy Qur'an it gets mixed in his flesh and blood. The Almighty Allāh would keep him with virtuous and honored angels and the Holy Qur'an would act as a shield against the fire of Hell for him on the Day of Judgment."
