16th Rabiul Awwal 1440 A.H. / 25th November 2018 - Topic: Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.W)

meeladMajlis Summary

Heartiest Felicitations on the Auspicious Occasion of Meeladun Nabi:
At the sighting of the crescent of Rabi ul Awwal, Muslims all over the world celebrate with intense felicitations the date of the birth of the Noble Prophet which took place on 17th Rabi ul Awwal in the year of the Elephant (Aamul Feel) 570 C.E. Such great is the excitement and happiness of this occasion that the whole month is dedicated towards this lofty personality. Some historians record the birthdate to be 12th Rabi’ ul Awwal. The variation in dates should not be a cause for differences. For more than three decades, taking into account this historical difference in dates, the Muslim Ummah has been observing the period from 12th to 17th Rabi’ ul Awwal as the Unity week.

On 17th Rabi ul Awwal, in addition to the birth of this great noble personality, the Prophet, who was awarded the title As Sadiq (the truthful) by the pagan Quraysh, we also observe the birth of his 5th great grandson who is the 6th in the line of the rightful Imams. He too, as addressed by the Prophet, is known as As Sadiq. The 6th Imam Jafar As Sadiq was born on 17th Rabi ul Awwal 83 A.H.

Four phrases:

The Encyclopedia Brittanica calls him “the most successful of all religious personalities of the world.” Influential figures in history are listed due to various factors such as discoveries, inventions, political leadership, wealth and other reasons. What criteria was utilized to present this status to Prophet Muhammad?

The Noble Prophet had a huge impact upon ayyamil jahiliyyah -era of ingnorance- where society was deeply decayed with female oppression, infanticide, liquor, gambling, immorality, constant wars such that man was man in physique, but a beart in nature. He was a man who moved not only empires, dynasties, legislations and armies, but millions of human beings in the one third of the then inhabited world. More than that he broke idols, changed beliefs, transformed souls with only one ambition which was devoted to overthrow false deities and to establish the unity of one God (Tawheed) with four words : La ilaha illa llah.
In our contemporary times which are similar to the ayyamil jahiliyyah how does this statement of tawheed guide us?

Describing this Divine gift:

Our vocabulary to describe the personality of the Noble Prophet is restricted to our human experience and temporal language. How can a human being who is not flawless be able to justify describing the Prophet who is flawless?
For the Noble Prophet is one who is from the purified (Verse of Tathir 33:33).
So we resort to Allah SWT, Rabbul ‘aalamin (Lord of the Universe) who in Sura Al Anbiya (21:107) introduces the Prophet as Rahmatu lill ‘aalamin; Mercy for the Universe; “And We did not send you, but as a mercy to all the universe.”

Rasul: a mere Postman?

Was the role of the prophet similar to a postman /courier delivery who delivers a letter /parcel through the front door after which we have nothing to do with the delivery persons?
The Noble Prophet does not merely post /drop the verse of Qur’an at the front door of humanity. He lives the Qur’an,he embodies the Qur’an and his nature is the Qur’an.

What then is our responsibility?

“We did not send any Messenger, but to be obeyed;By Allah’s leave.” Sura An Nisa 4:64.
As we celebrate Meeladun Nabi, come back to the Message of Qur’an and recommit obedience to the Noble Prophet.

Reflect:

  • How obedient am I to the Prophet?
  • How close do I bring my living /life to way of the Prophet?
  • In contemporary times similar to ayyamil jahiliyyah what would the Prophet expect me to do?
