"Then each one of you should do those deeds which bring you closer to our love"

(Imam Mahdi (A.S))

"They used to sleep but little in the night. And in the morning they asked Forgiveness"

For the 1st time at Wessex Jamaat, in holiest of the nights throughout the year, youths and adults gathered at the centre to spend 2 days and 2 nights for Ibadat and worship - an imitation of the commonly practiced and highly emphasised Sunnah of Rasulallah (s.a.w.), the I’tikaaf.

This Laylatul Qadr had an impact on many as the I'tikaf program brought a new image, a new means and an entirely new practice of Worship and Devotion to Allah.

Organised by the AM-Youth, we had been given a schedule for the programme, rules and regulations entailing all the Akhlaq measures and a booklet on I'tikaf with merits of various duas and A'amaal towards the end of the book as pearls and supplements to our reading, 2 nights before the 23rd Ramadhan.

Come Laylatul Qadr, we all brought out sleeping bags and clothes, knowing we shall be here until Sunday night. The programme started with Niyaaz, Dua Iftetah and the common A'amaal of the night of 23rd. After this, we had Jaushan-e-Kabir and 100 rak'ats Salaah during the night until it was time for Sehri. We all had the sehri together...some eating away very quickly in order to get more time for their Salaatul Layl. After Fajr, many of Jamaat members and our guardians went home, leaving the youths at the centre...we had a quick reminder of the objectives and the regulations after which everyone was fast asleep…at least for 3 hours!

Most of us were awake before 11 am and got ready for our Quran Tafseer Class.
Some of the people joined us for the Zohr prayer, after which we had Dua-e-Ahad and Ziarah.
Sleeping was then imposed, since the following night involved another A'amaal night which necessitated each and every participant to be awake and hence partake.
An hour before Maghrib, Mulla Mujahid came to visit us and we had the chance to ask him various questions on Islamic matters. It was really good to share our experiences about the spiritual retreat.

Later that night, when most people had left after the main Dua program and many other youths had joined the I'tikaf, we had a session with Muallim Jaffer Ladak on ‘parents’. This was a very informative and equally emotional a lecture to touch every participants heart and we concluded the session with the Dua and Salaah for the Maghfirah of all our parents.

After a short break, we began with the A'amaal of Ashura – the greatly highlighted Sunnah, where towards the end of Ziarate Ashura, Muallim recited the Musibah of Aba-Abdillahil Hussein – its principle aim being to soften the hearts and hence pave easy to personal repentance. While everyone was still in tears, we carried on with Marsia, followed by a few Matam, before concluding the Ziarah and the rest of the A'amaal.

Sehri followed with Great Spirit and constructive Islamic debate amongst the youths including the Muallim. Before Fajr, some went for Salaatul Layl whilst others were busy gaining knowledge and engrossed in other Ibadaat.
After Fajr, the spirits were still somehow high though most of us needed a break / rest and by the time we all bid farewell to Muallim Jaffer, some of us were already to bed.

After Dua-e Nudbah and Zohrain Salaah on Sunday, we sat down for our long-desired Quran Tafsir class yet again. For about 2 hours, youths were engrossed in researching and reading the Quran which overall was graded the best program in the 2 day itinerary. It went fantastic!

We concluded by embracing each other, seeking each other’s forgiveness and by congratulating each other for having partaken in the programme just before the Jamaat programme on Sunday which was Salaate-e Jaffer Tayyar. Later on, after the main programme, everyone left the centre, having spent a weekend away from the world, from personal affairs and from everything else - a weekend spent entirely in the worship of the Almighty, in the best of the months in the year, and more specifically in the best of the nights throughout year.
