WHAT
IS AM YOUTH???
AM-Youth
stands for Al-Mahdi Youth. We are a Shi'a Muslim youth organization
based in Hampshire and comprised of the youth of Al-Mahdi
Mosque, and we work hard for the pleasure of Allah. We work
hard to continue His message, which he sent to all the Prophets
from Prophet Adam (a.s) to Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.w), and
which was kept alive by all 12 holy Imams (a.s), ending with
the 12th living Imam, Imam Muhammad Mahdi, Ajalallahu Ta'ala
Farajah.
We
organize many different events to shape the youth of our community
in the best way possible, and to give them a better future
in the Path of Allah, Inshallah. The events we organize range
from sporting events and outings such as paint balling and
football, to Islamic events such as Qur'an competitions.
We
aim to help the youth of the community to grow up in an Islamic
environment and socialize with Muslims like themselves so
that they can become better people and learn from people their
own age. We also aim to give the youth ideal leadership skills
and to encourage them to take part in their community as these
are the future leaders of our Muslim Community at Al-Mahdi
Centre. |
The
NEW "Kerbala's Call" Publication
AM
Youth have just released a great new magazine on Ashura
& Kerbala. It is truly fantastic, filled with fantastic,
deep, thought-provoking articles, inspirational, interesting
stories and history. Here is a little taster:
“I
feel very close to my Imams in Moharram”, said one
of my students. How true! These great nights, for some,
have a tremendous impact on their lives, while are nothing
but rituals for others. Well, didn’t Imam Hussein
(a.s) fight for a revolution; a change in people’s
lives; a change of bad habits, wrong practices and false
notions?
Hence,
this book is just a humble presentation of some articles,
extracts and thoughts that may touch your heart and help
you absorb Kerbala’s Call on the day of Ashura.
It
is a small effort that I hope All-h will accept, and in
the name of Aba Abdillah, fill my heart and yours with the
love of Ahlul Bayt, which is the key to the door of eternal
reward.

"It's
one of the Rights of a Muslim over another Muslim that he
should Visit his grave" (Imam
Ja'fer As-Sadiq A.S.)
The
newest event we have launched is the Thursday Tafsir sessions.
Read more about this above.
We
are also holding majlises at the cemetry every 1st Sunday
of the month.
It
is not only very beneficial for us but also for the deceased
for us to go there and let them benefit from the thawab.
If we would like this constant source of thawab when we
die, we should support this regular program by attending
it, just as we would like others to come and recite at our
grave when we pass away.
It
is also very good for us to visit the graveyard so we can
remember our own death will come too, and we need to prepare
for our akhira.
These
session will begin at 11am with personal time. Then we will
recite Surah Yasin, followed by Surah al-Hamd and 7 Surah
al-Qadrs. Finally we will recite and Marthiya or Qasida,
and end with Ziyarah and Tabaruk.

"They
used to sleep but little in the night. And in the morning
they asked Forgiveness"
In
Ramadhan, AM Youth hosted the first ever Al I'tikaf program
at Al-Mahdi centre. It was a fantastic event and the atmosphere
was amazing. I'tikaf was the sunnah of the prophet, and
he used to spend the last 10 nights of 'tikaf. He gave it
great importance, which is why it is essential that we contine
his sunnah.
I'tikaf
is a spiritual retreat in the mosque, usually performed
during the last ten days of Ramadan. A person "making
i'tikaf" spends the 3+ nights in the mosque, devoting
his or her time to worship and reading the Qur'an.Though
our I'tikaf was not in a masjid, and not 3 nights long,
it still achieved a similar aim, and we all became closer
to our lord, with only Him and our reflection for company.
"It
is time for us now to spread open the wings of our soulsand
fly towards our lord. Let us prepare ourselves to go to
Allah (swt)'s house, and hope to retun with an invaluable
gift from him."
Overall
it was a fantastic event, and all participants said they
would love to make this a regular event. It was a unique
oppurtunity and I am sure we will be holding many more similar
events.
